Howard Community College English, Language and Business Building

The Howard Community College located in Columbia, Maryland, and situated on a 120-acre wooded campus, selected Riparius Construction, Inc. as its Construction Manager for their new English, Language and Business Building (ELB) Project. The new three story ELB Building totals 105,000 sq. ft. of space. The program called for Reading and Writing labs that would allow for implementation of network technology applicable to computer mediated writing; English as a Second Language/language labs that would incorporate ESL and foreign language classes with multimedia computer technology; Computer Systems Labs that allowed for the delivery of IT courses including certification, computer science, and business; and Office Technology labs with individualized computer instructional and testing areas. Other plans included division workgroup and faculty office, student lounges, group study areas and a multi-purpose room, coffee bar and veranda. Also, infrastructure improvements included extensive site work involving construction of new parking lot, sidewalks, etc. for the campus. The infrastructure work was coordinated with all ongoing campus activities.
